Just wondered what your opinion of Diamond Geezer is?
Narrowed my purchase down to 5 diamonds, but on their site they have the GIA breakdown but no images.
I have emailed them to ask for images as I am keen to see the idea of eye clean.
If I get them to send me images, could you have a look at them for me?Looking to spend between £2100-£2500 aiming for about 0.75 carat, with H or i colour and VS2 or SI1 clarity. Been looking at excellent cut as read this is essential?
Sure you can send me the images.
So do you have any review for Diamond Geezer website?
I am still trying to get some images from them.
I know nothing about them. I looked at their site and found it to be a pain the butt to navigate. That’s all I know.
In general I’m skeptical of sites I haven’t heard of, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy of consideration.
Yes I agree that the site isn’t the best. They are based in UK and were featured on a mainstream TV show called Dragons Den. Seem to have good reviews online.
Due to being in the UK and a wider selection of setting for the ring, I was looking to buy from them. However, being able to see on James Allen is a big plus.
I have asked DG to get me a photo of the one I am looking to buy. It is Round, 0.75ca I colour, Excellent cut, symmetry and polish with a VS2 rating. Would be happy to get SI1 if I could know it was clean before buying.
Would you suggest a J at a slightly bigger size or is I far superior to J?
Looking at spending about $4000 but if I do buy form USA (James Allen) I would have to pay 20% VAT on top to import, so probably looking at $3300 or something total.
If you happen to know of any good purchases on JA, please let me know and in the meantime, many thanks and I will send you the DG image if they are able to find it.
Everyone charges the 20% VAT. It doesn’t matter if you buy from a UK site or a US site. The only difference is the 5% import tax. Considering that the UK market is less competitive and higher priced, and the fact that you have an easier time selecting from a site like that, it usually ends up that its worth buying from JA. But if they can get photos, its worth a look.
I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.
If there is only 5% to add from the JA price then it is worth thinking about that again, but my understanding was that I would be hit with 20% VAT on top of the sale price whereas with Diamond Geezer VAt in included so no additional tax to pay.
It would be White Gold and Solitare setting.
If only 5% extra to pay, that probably has my budget at around $3500
You pay 25% (give or take; there is a shipping calculator on the bottom left of their page). The point is that the person you are working with is charging the same 20% VAT that JA would. Whether they factor it in before or after they list the price.
Ok, thanks I understand now what you meant about the VAT and import duty.
So that makes my budget around $3150 for the on screen price at JA.
Diamond Geezer are unable to get an image for that one i was going to buy. They offered an alternative with image for (awaiting image) but it is 0.71 ca, bit less than my intended size.
If you stumble across anything suitable at James Allen in your opinion, i would be keen to know about it.
Just to be sure, you are looking for round diamonds?
Yes, sorry if I didn’t say that before.
…….
This is the 0.71 diamond from Diamond Geezer. Does it look good to you? Still thinking I need 0.75 size wise but if this is good quality it might do.
Do you have a copy of the certificate?
I’m assuming that diamond is an I1 or an Si2, but it would be nice to see the cut specs.
Here is the cert.
Really? Wow.
What was the price. I guess the black on the edge is a marker.
Price of that diamond was £2200 approx.
This is a perfect example. You think you are saving money because you don’t pay the import tax, but check this diamond out:

This diamond is a shade better (the faint fluorescence and 61.9% depth are very slight improvements), but even so call it a wash. According to JA’s shipping calculator (on the bottom left of their page), this diamond costs 1,900 GBP including all VAT and taxes.
I would go with this diamond though:

This diamond is eye-clean as well. Its 1,636 GBP including vat/taxes.
What do you think?
Thanks Michael, they both look great, though still not quite the 0.75 ca I was hoping to get.
Seen another on 77 diamonds (heard of them)?
So far no image though so awaiting their response.
This one is nice as well:

It’s a 0.80 and it only costs 2,150.
Yes, that one looks pretty good. And excellent value. Will that squiggle on the top right be visible to the naked eye? Looks quite dark?
Probably the best I have seen (picture wise)
Thanks again
Nope. Keep in mind that the photo is 20x (40 with the loupe) magnified. It’s on the edge and you can ask them to set it with the prong right there. it should be completely invisible.
Excellent, thank you for your help.
My pleasure. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I hope you understand my logic on not going for 77diamonds/BN. They don’t really save you money, so what’s the point jumping through hoops to find one through them? They ship the diamonds from NY the same way JA does.
Thanks. I fully understand your points about the 2 UK ones. The only advantage they have is return for resizing is easier in UK plus a wider choice of ring settings. The ja site is better value etc
