Hi,
I am based in the UK and about to buy an engagement ring on Blue Nile.
I am deciding between 2 options (both seem eye-clean, a must for me):
1 – Blue Nile LD14389062
2 – Blue Nile LD13331126
#1 has a better color (G vs H) but strong blue fluorescence, and I read that fluorescence can be very bad, so I am leaning towards #2.
Could you please advise or provide your opinion?
Indeed, strong fluorescence is a kiss of death on anything higher than a J color. Plus, that diamond is deeply cut. I would definitely skip it.
Blue Nile LD13331126
This diamond is not such a great choice either. It’s good that it doesn’t have strong fluorescence, but its cut is a bit too deep. It would cause worse light refraction and the stone might end up looking smaller than a better cut option with the same carat weight.
I found this superbly cut option that’s even slightly cheaper:
Blue Nile LD14356449
Thanks a lot. The diamond you referred to is great and will likely get it.
My last question: could you please provide a couple of good options if I wanted to increase my budget to around 9k GBP?
I found only one recommendable option that’s larger than 1.3ct:
Blue Nile LD13726652
I know it’s stretching the budget a little, so if it was me, I’d still opt for the previous 1.31ct. If you look at the real measurements, you can see that the actual difference in size is negligible, yet the difference in price is huge.
Thanks, we’ll go with the one you suggested:
I’m sure it will look absolutely gorgeous in real life, it has perfect cut parameters. Do you think you could let me know how you like it when it arrives?
We got the ring and it looks great.
Thanks for the help.
That’s great news! Thank you for the feedback, it’s much appreciated. I’m glad you are happy with your new ring.
