G’day,
I live in Australia and would like a little assistance in selecting a diamond for an engagement ring I propose to buy from JA.
The setting I am considering will be quite simple and in platinum. It will most likely be a plain knife edge band. Or at most a thin pave setting band, similar to the two below.
I would like to get a pear shaped diamond for the setting and my budget is around $4000 – $6000. Happy for more ore less if it will be a big difference.

Any help would be appreciated, including anything I you think is imperitive that I consider.
Thanks a lot.
Does that budget include the setting or just the center diamond?
The budget would be just for the diamond!
Have you had much experience with pear shaped diamonds, and the settings they go well with? I’m after something that looks simple yet elegant. This may be something you can’t answer as it is just personal opinion!
I love this diamond for you if you can stretch your budget a bit, this is a beautiful diamond with great size:

The shape of the diamond is paramount when it comes to pear shapes, as there is no uniform cutting standards for them. This one has that perfect teardrop shape.
When it comes to the settings, I am not a fan of opulent diamond crusted settings for pear shapes; they tend to take focus away from the unique shape of the diamond. It seems like you picked a fantastic setting to go with that diamond.
What do you think?
I think the budget is always “stretchable” with something like this!
The diamond looks great! And as I have limited knowledge – what are the keys to look for in a pear shaped diamond in terms of shape?
I really appreciate the help!
Not too stubby or to thin.
I have had a look at a couple of other websites (in australia) and was wondering if you had had any dealings with or feedback from other people in relation to: http://www.jogiadiamonds.com.au/
There is a pear shaped diamond on their site with similar specifications: 1.21 ct, G, SI1, polish excellent with symmetry very good. The code is J6961578 and there is also a picture that you can view. As the amount is in Australian dollars it would be slightly cheaper than the James Allen website. I think this link should take you to it.
The website is not as user friendly as the James Allen one however and the settings are harder to look at in any great detail however the tax price is included, which is not the case for the James Allen prices.
Keen to know your thoughts.
To be honest, I don’t like the diamond much. The inclusion is dark black and right in the middle of the diamond. It will be very eye-visible. It is cheaper, but its a far inferior diamond. If Jogi actually owned the diamond and there wasn’t a $200 fee to look at the diamond, I’d say give it a shot. But I seriously doubt you will like it.
Thanks again for your quick reply.
One further question I have is, that apart from the obvious size differences between the one you suggested and the two below – what makes the stone you selected better than these two? As the symmetry seems to be listed as very good on all 3.
The marks that can seen on the diamonds in the x40 shots I assume cannot be seen by the naked eye?

Thanks, I am now definitely leaning towards the James Allen site for both stones and setting.
The second one is fantastic, the first one is not eye-clean. The actual symmetry grade is not that important.
