Hi The Diamond Pro,
I have a beautifully cut solitaire diamond in my engagement ring that is graded an ‘I’ in color. You cannot notice the color at all and it is very sparkly and quite beautiful. Someone from the Diamond Pro helped with the specs and we are so grateful for this!
I am writing because I would like to buy a diamond band – maybe an eternity ring – as my wedding band. We will have been together 12 years on our wedding day so it will also be an anniversary.
I would like to buy the band from Blue Nile or James Allen, but this means I cannot try it on. My question to you is, should I be concerned that the color of most diamond bands is much higher (say F-G-H) than the color of my main stone which is ‘I’?
As you have said on your page, the only time you can really identify color is when diamonds are right next to each other. If this is the case, should I be asking for a band made with more colored diamonds?
My concern is I do not want to buy a diamond band if it will make my engagement ring appear dark in comparison.
Do you have any advice on this? I think you will have other readers with the same question.
I wouldn’t worry about any color difference. I color is actually our usual recommendation for pave settings (the ones with smaller diamonds in the band) and it looks absolutely colorless. The melee diamonds are too small to bring out any yellowness in an I-color main diamond.
Thank you, I appreciate the advice!!
You’re very welcome.
