Hi guys,
I went looking at rings at a local jewler, based on my budget, around $10k and the size my girlfriend would prefer, round 1.5 – 1.7ct. We were looking at a Forever Mark 1.73 J VS2, triple excellent, depth 62.3%, table 57.60. 7.64×7.60×4.75 negligible fluorescence. How is this for value? It’s a beautiful stone, he showed it to me under maginification and there were no imperfections on the table and you could see to the bottom of the stone with a naked eye.
I’d like your guys thoughts on if this reasonably priced? Can I find a better diamond for the money? Should I have any apprehension buying a Forever Mark since it’s not GIA certified?
I’d have to see the certificate in order to give you well-informed feedback on that diamond, but as far as I can tell from the specs you gave me, the diamond seems to be very well cut and the price is reasonable. Forever Mark quality is fantastic, even without the GIA certificate, you know you are getting a great stone. May I ask what was the price?
I’d be happy to look around and find some comparable alternatives, can you just tell me what style setting you want to put the diamond into? I want to make sure I recommend the right color grade for it.
Thanks for the info, the Forevermark was about $10k, Ibdont remember the exact price off hand.
I’m looking for a diamond hopefully 1.5ct or higher, round cut, I want it to be incredibly eye catching, ideally no lower than an I but am open to a J, VS2 would be the lowest clarity but I want the absolute best cut possible.
I’ve been looking at Brian Gavin Diamonds online and would like to keep the stone around $10k. The setting is a hidden halo, with a 3/4 pave band.
For a (hidden) halo setting with a pave band, J color would be too low. It would have a yellow hue compared to the smaller diamonds in the ring. Ideally, I wouldn’t go below an H color to ensure the colorless impression (unless a warmer looking diamond is what you’re looking for). What do you think? Unfortunately, going higher in color would drive the price up so you would end up with a slightly smaller diamond.
I’m open to your suggestions and advice.
I found a couple of options with different color grades and carat weight. As always, perfect cut was my #1 priority:

I included I-color options as well. I know that size is important to you and it’s possible that thanks to the perfect cut, the color wouldn’t be noticeable in real life (brilliance usually helps the diamonds look a bit whiter).
Is there’s a vendor that you feel has a better product among the 3?
