I’m currently doing for an engagement ring, and stumbled upon your site and its great articles. I found these 2 diamonds, that to my eye look basically the same and thought I’d see if you’d be so kind as to give me your opinion on it the d color diamond would be noticably better in person, to justify the extra cost.
I’m not a huge fan of the D-color diamond. It has a very obvious bow-tie. The F one looks much better in this regard and it’s also beautifully shaped. The F is the winner for me.
Thank you so much for reviewing those two diamonds, I was leaning towards the F over the D as well. I’ve been a little hesitant making the purchase since I’m not able to see the diamond in person, but your response has helped. I know you can’t see the F one in person either, but did you notice any other issues with it that would make you suggest I keep searching, or from the limited amount you can see, does the F one seem like a good option worth choosing?
The F-color diamond is an excellent choice and will make an amazing ring. There are no issues there. If you’d be interested in seeing an alternative, though, I found one.

I can’t see the price of the F VVS1 anymore (did you put it on hold?), but I’m guessing this one is much better priced. Color-wise, it’s going to look identical to the F and it also has a very subtle bow-tie. Basically, you’d get the same look to the naked eye with a significant price difference.
Thank you again for the feedback, and this alternative. I ended up purchasing the original F-color diamond, that’s why you can’t see the price now. This G is slightly cheaper, but not enough that I regret pulling the trigger, I’m very happy with the F. Thanks again for your original advice between the D and F!
That’s great news! It was my pleasure helping you, you got yourself a beautiful diamond.
