Hello.
I’m working with a jeweler in my hometown and I trust him because my family has used him and I am only looking for a lab diamond.
Yesterday he found a lab diamond for me, sent me the IGI report, but I looked it up and it’s on Ritani for $500 less. I’m less concerned with pricing than I am in that the specs seem to sit outside the perfect round cut.
I found a different one on James Allen for way less that has better specs but need an experts advice.
Can you send me a link to the diamond you are considering? And the one from James Allen. I’ll take a closer look at both of them and then will be able to give you well-informed feedback.
I want to understand the price difference and why one seems better than the other and want to trust especially since I can’t see lighting.
Here is the ritani one, the 1.84ct:

Here is the James Allen one, the 1.87ct:

Can you give me specifics on what you recommend and why?
The James Allen diamond is better cut. It has a lower depth % which would lead to better light refraction. Ideally, the depth % should be close to 60% and never exceed 62.6. The Ritani diamond is not the worst, but it has a 62.7% depth which is already quite high. As for the other Cs – both diamonds are eye-clean and would look colorless in any setting you’d put them into.
Thank you so much! I actually went ahead already and purchased the James Allen one so now I feel even better about the choice I made!! I am going to go to a jeweler for the setting!
I am excited to hear it will be eye clean because I def. could see some inclusions on it. I am thinking of doing a pave rose gold band with white gold prongs. Do you think that will make the “fire” of it show?
That’s great news! That diamond was an excellent choice. As for the inclusions you saw, keep in mind that the videos are extremely magnified. You wouldn’t see any of those specs in real life.
A pave setting would definitely add some more brilliance to the ring so I’m sure the whole piece will be a real head-turner.
Awesome, thank you so much!
You’re very welcome.
