I am looking for a new pair of 2 carat (total) diamond stud earrings (round in 14k white gold with la pousette, guardian, or screw backs). I have several pairs of studs and unfortunately I lost one of mine while abroad since the threads on the screw back were stripped and I never got it fixed before I finally lost one for good.
I’m currently looking at Blue Nile but would love help on finding the right pair.
One other thing, out of curiosity, I stopped at Tiffany’s yesterday and they quoted me $18,900 for 1.80TW JVVS2/VVS1. This seems astronomically high and I don’t think that the clarity is worth it for earrings. Thoughts?
With Tiffany’s, you’re paying for the brand’s name, not for any special features (the high clarity grade wouldn’t make the diamonds more brilliant). You can get a much better bang for your buck by going with Blue Nile.
As for the loose earring, that’s up to you. You can keep it, you can put the diamond into a pendant, etc… If you decided to sell it/trade it in, I’d be happy to put you in touch with diamond buyers who might be able to help you with that.
I looked around and found this beautiful pair:
Blue Nile LD14978270
Blue Nile LD14873127
The diamonds are a perfect fit and would be very brilliant as earrings.

The stones you picked out are beautiful but just wondering if it is worth getting anything better in color and/or clarity. My current ones are I color with SI1 clarity and I’m just wondering how the ones you recommended may compare.
Another question…I found this set (LD15084238, LD15084241) which is also Ideal cut, I color, and SI2 clarity like the stones you recommended but are significantly cheaper – can you let me know the difference?
You don’t need to go with higher grades. I color already looks absolutely colorless so higher grades would look identical anyway. And clarity grade is even less important. Once a diamond is eye-clean (or clean enough), it’s simply eye-clean and a higher grade wouldn’t make it any “more eye-clean” or more brilliant (that’s what cut does).
As for the pair you sent me, the LD15084238 has a large black inclusion on the table (it would be very noticeable) and a cavity that might cause durability issues. The LD15084241 also has many prominent imperfections on the table and is cut way too deep = would be less brilliant. I would pass on these two.
Great. Thanks again and I’ll let you know if the recommended stones aren’t available when I go to make my purchase next week.
…
I just ordered my earrings using the stones you picked out for me. I am going to do a bank wire as soon as they confirm availability.
I appreciate all your help.
That’s wonderful news!
