Good morning,
I am going to get a new ring for my wife for our 25th anniversary. Looking at around 3 carrats.
I am going with Blue Nile as they have a platinum thick band she would like. The ring is going to be a solitary princess cut.
My question is this diamond is only a J but it looks good to me from my limited knowledge, would you recommend this diamond? My wife is no diamond expert at all, but she does like big things.
Since it’s such a big stone, I’d recommend an I+ colored diamond. If you went with yellow gold/rose gold setting with yellow gold/rose gold prongs, then J color would be okay. But since you prefer platinum, I’d recommend I+ colored diamonds to avoid any yellowish hue.
The stone you found is nicely cut but the crown is flat. I’m just afraid you would be able to see some yellowish tint. I found this diamond but it’s a bit borderline of eye-cleanliness Blue Nile LD14284515. We usually don’t recommend SI2 diamonds, therefore, I would suggest asking BN if they can confirm eye-cleanliness and that the stone doesn’t have any issues with integrity. But if it would be okay with the feather, it would be a nice option that is reasonably priced and it’s a 3ct stone as you prefer.
As a second option, I’d recommend this diamond but it’s smaller than you initially wanted: Blue Nile LD14207336. Let me know your thoughts, please.
What do you think of this 2.7? It seams like a great price and diamond looks good to me.
I do like that 3.02 you sent to me.
Blue Nile LD14228662 – This diamond is a bit deeply cut and the strong fluorescence might cause a hazy/milky look in daylight. Also, we try to avoid knots, cavities and etch channels as much as possible as they might disrupt the integrity of the stone.
Ok cool.
I will ask Blue Nile about the 3ct stone.
I will let you know what they say.
…
Looks like I was too slow this diamond is no longer available.
Back to the drawing board.
Theoretically, somebody could put it on hold. It might become available again. But good diamonds get sold quickly. I couldn’t find any 3ct princess cuts within your budget at this moment. But if you want, I can put you in touch with our contact in NY, they specialize in big diamonds. Are you located in the U.S.?

This one would be perfect if it wasn’t for the feather in the bottom right corner. It might be an issue in the long run.
Fortunately, I was able to find this amazing alternative that is absolutely perfect both on paper and in the video:
Blue Nile LD14186825
The price is fantastic, too.
Look great thanks!!!
I am going to go with the second one.
I’m glad I found it, it’s an excellent option.
