Hello! I am looking to buy diamond stud earrings for my wife. Budget is about $750. Any suggestions?
Just to confirm, are you looking for round earrings?
Yes, round diamond stud earrings. 14k white gold setting. I don’t really know anything about number of prongs, etc., so perhaps you can tell me what you recommend? Of course, I don’t want to spend too much on the setting and not leave enough for the diamonds. I am fine with H or I colored diamonds that are SI1, SI2, or even I1 if they will be eye clean. I definitely want a good sparkly cut.
As for clarity, SI2+ is where we search (once you get into the I1 area the diamonds range from terrible to inconceivably bad), even though you should be careful when selecting SI diamonds of that size. Since the certs don’t have clarity plots that would show where the inclusions are and how big they are, if there is a cloud mentioned first (or it’s the only clarity characteristic), you should skip it. It usually means that cloud is the most important inclusion and it can make the diamond look hazy in daylight.
As for the color grade, you can go as low as a J with no problems at all.
Coincidentally, the best (cleanest) pair I found are these two J VVS1s:
Blue Nile LD14110671
Blue Nile LD13879135
They are a perfect fit and would be very brilliant as earrings.
You can choose the setting here: Build Your Own Earrings. The number of prongs is up to you, whatever look you prefer.
I think these look good, but two questions:
1. Are you sure the J color is ok? They won’t look yellow?
2. Are these available as a pair from Blue Nile? I can’t figure out how to get them added to earrings. I can call them if necessary.
For diamonds that size, J color is fine, there wouldn’t be any yellowness. Moreover, their fantastic cut would help them look even whiter.
To buy them as earrings, you need to put them in your shopping cart and call/message the customer service. They’ll take it from there.
That’s great to hear.
Thanks a lot!
You’re very welcome.
