Q&A: Help Finding an Emerald Cut Diamond for a Platinum Channel Setting for Around $12.5k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi there,

I’m looking for an emerald cut, 1.7-2 ct. It will go into a platinum setting with channel set diamonds. Budget for stone is $12.5k (but if something great is a little more, I have some flexibility).

Thank you – stupid question – will one look materially nicer than the other? It is likely that I will buy the setting when I buy the diamond, what is your opinion of the strings offered by James Allen and Blue Nile? Does one have a better reputation than the other?

Those two companies are very comparable as they both offer beautiful settings and the quality is very similar. Right now, I’d say that you should choose the company that has the setting you like.

Was the question ” will one look materially nicer than the other? ” about the settings?

The question about will one look nicer was about the diamonds. Is there something about the cut or size or polish (or something else) that would make one look nicer than the other in real life.

They are very similar in all the aspects. However, I like the JA one a bit more as it has a slightly less black windowing effect (the black spots you can see when you look at the diamond from the top).
Other than that, they would be very similar.

I went with JA. Thank you for your help.

Great news.
