I’m looking for a round diamond for a 6 prong solitaire setting. In yellow gold. Not sure about the prong color. I’m sure it affects the color of the stone. I’d like to as big as I can for $5k.
What are your suggestions on prong color and stones?
For a yellow gold solitaire setting (the prongs are usually made of white gold), J color would be what I’d go with and it’ll still look beautiful and colorless.
I looked around and something like this would be my recommendation:

These diamonds are fantastically cut, eye-clean and either of them will be very brilliant.
What do you think?
Thanks for the response,
I think they are just too small. I dug through a bunch of them on that site the other day and did find a clean J that was close to 1.5 ct for in the $6k range. I can’t find it at the moment.
What about going to K color with gold prongs? Gold prongs might make it look like a J? Or would it darken it?
Can you send me the 1.5ct J when you find it?
Going with yellow gold prongs and K color might get you a larger diamond. But the setting will be more expensive:

This one is very well cut.
Let me know your thoughts.
I’ll send it when I can look. At work now. But do you think the setting will cover the spots on the one you sent? Will K be too warm? It seems sketchy. But I hear in gold it can be ok?
What do I have to spend to go to J about 1.5? And be eye clean?
The marks won’t be visible with the naked eye, they are too insignificant and will go unnoticed in the diamond’s structure. K color is our usual recommendation for a yellow gold setting with yellow gold prongs and it looks great. This is based on our expertise, experiences and most importantly on the feedback we receive from our readers.
Here’s the J-color option:

It’s beautifully cut.
Thoughts?
I think I would rather go with a K and gold prongs. To me it seems like you can see the color from the side angles but with a 6 prong setting it blocks most of it anyway…
Well, if size is your priority, then the K-color one would be perfect for you. Also, that diamond will have some added brilliance thanks to its fantastic cut which might help it look a bit whiter.
Did you send me a K?
I did. Check one of my previous emails. Here it is again:

It is pretty, I assume the speck on upper left won’t show to the eye?
……
I did see this one too. thoughts?
You’re right, those tiny marks won’t be visible with the naked eye.
The one you found is beautiful, I like it a lot.
