Q&A: “I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing!”

I am planning on proposing in late October and am beginning my search for a ring – the problem being that I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing!

I am looking to spend around 5k on the diamond and setting combined. I am also looking for a setting with just a single stone.

I was wondering if you could give me some guidance as to what size and quality of diamond I should be trying to get for 5k. I know nothing is an exact science but I would greatly appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you for this. I’ve been in contact with a wholesaler down here in Tampa and I was wondering if you could let me know what you think about this diamond. It’s a Round Brilliant .92ctw, SI2/G Certified.

It’s GIA Certified with a G color. The polish, symmetry and cut grade are all “excellent”.

The price of this stone is $4,900. I have also attached the video they sent to me of the stone. Is this a reasonable price for the stone?

Wow, thank you so much for this, I never would have known! I hate to continue to barrage you with questions but do you think it would be possible to find a great looking 1ct Round Brilliant for around 5k? If so, is it possible to either go any bigger? I’m moving away from the wholesalers now so I am looking to restart my search!
