Hello, your website has been a huge help! I’m a bit of a research junkie, and stumbled across your website as I was searching. After consulting with (her) friends and family, I’ve chosen to go with an Emerald Cut Diamond for my (soon to be I hope!) Fiancee.
To make a long story short I have a lot of contacts in the Jewelry industry here in Canada, but wanted to cast as wide a net as possible while searching. I looked at literally thousands of settings but came across one that won me over from blue nile (pictured here)
Blue Nile Channel Set Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring
and I’d like it with an approx 1 carat emerald cut diamond:
It has significance for a large variety of reasons, and was by far the front runner amongst friends and family I showed it too as well. Now (partly because of your excellent review!) I didn’t want to get the diamond from blue nile, so turned to my contacts AND james allen to see if they could make the ring as shown.
Anyhow, I’m taking up too much of your time, but spent a lot of time with various jewelers and got the confirmation that James Allen could make the ring for me, plus I decided to go with them as I can inspect the diamond I wanted easily. I’m paying a bit more than a few of my contacts could have offered me, but it works out because I can see exactly what I’m getting so I’m happy.
In any case, that, in a nutshell, is where I am! I was hoping to get your opinion on 3 diamonds I’ve selected
I’ve reserved all three, and actually technically had a bit bigger of a budget to spend, but didn’t find anything that really jumped out at me in either the G or F color range. Do you have any thoughts / opinions? I’ve been assured (both by research and opinions of jewelers) that H should be great as long as its cut well and is an actual GIA (H Color).
Thank you so much for your time, and for any advice you can give me!
I’m sorry for the delay responding. I was away for the long weekend. If you are still interested in our help, let me know and I will get to your email in the next day or so.
Sure, I would love some advice!
First of all, how far are you from the border? If you buy from a US site and ship it to somewhere in the US, you save about 20% in taxes. On a ring and diamond, you can be saving a thousand bucks by taking a couple hour drive.
I’ll be Able to pick up the ring in the US, and probably propose down there as well!
I love this diamond for you:
It’s bright, superbly cut and a great value. What do you think?
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’m not sure if you saw that diamond on my short list, that I sent to you originally:
I had all 3 of those on hold, and I’d carefully selected them using the advice found on your website (a huge help!). I didn’t hear from you guys for a while, and the folks at JA couldn’t keep them on hold, so I ended up going with 186800 (the middle link). I chose that one as that and 195910 (the one you just sent me) look so similar, but the 186800 was just over .3 mm longer. I know it’s after the fact but if you have a chance to look at it and let me know what you think?
I want to thank you guys so much for putting up your website, it was so informative and helped go into the process with confidence!
That one is better it just wasn’t on the list when I searched (as it was sold).
Thanks Mike!
My pleasure. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
