Q&A: Looking for 2nd Opinion on G I1 Round Diamond

Hi! I am interested in this diamond, it’s $2,090. It looks good and I can’t for the life of me find the inclusions that would make this an I1 rating. I’m not willing to spend much more than $2,500 on a diamond.

Thanks so much for your quick reply and advice. JA will be sending me a gemologist report in the next few days.

Just a few more quick questions if that’s okay: How likely would it be for a diamond to chip because of a feather? Also, would the G color grade offset the I1 clarity grade at all? Finally, there are some J and K color graded diamonds on JA; should I consider those or is that too much color in a diamond? (My setting will be white gold or platinum, and I’m considering diamonds in the .75 to .90 carat range.)

Understood Mike. The setting will have small sidestones, 8 on each side (doesn’t go all the way around the ring). It’s a channel setting, total carat weight of the sidestones is .60.

I received the following from JA after their gemologist report:

I am happy to tell you that the 0.78 carat-G-I1 (diamond 1537951) has very good fire, brilliance and scintillation. It will face up completely eye clean and is a very nice white color. The feather on the diamond is located under crown mainly and slightly runs under a little bit of the table. It blends very well and I can assure you that it will not pose any durability concerns.

Seems like everything is good right? Just wanted to check with you one last time before purchasing.

I received the ring this morning! Here are pictures of the diamond. I asked JA to cover the feather with a prong – it looks really good! It appraised for nearly $1,500 more than what I paid for as well. Thanks so much for your advice. I needed all the help I could get for such a significant purchase. I really appreciate it!
