First off I want to say thank you for the site. I stumbled upon it in my search and so far it has been educational.. That being said I am finding the terms/process very overwhelming (I previously thought my fiance wanted a round/princess cut but she fell in love with the look of an oval on her hand).
I am searching for an oval cut ring and I know my fiance would like something 1.5 to 2.5 carats. As far as color F-I is fine and VS1 – SI1 would be preferred. I know she likes this pavet style setting with similar side stones:
I am basically seeing how much bang I can get for my buck while recognizing I have to be flexible as well. I live in Brooklyn and don’t mind going into the diamond district or similar if there are reputable/good retailers with online links in the nyc area. My budget for the diamond would be a 8-10k as I have to account for also then getting the band (with similar stones as the link) and the requisite NY Sales Tax. Any links or further educational assistance would be appreciated.
Where in BK do you live? My last place in NYC before leaving was BK Heights.
You can ship the diamond to a fed-ex location in Jersey City and write ‘hold for pick-up.’ It will save you about $900 for a $5 round trip on the path.
I am currently on the other side of Brooklyn in Canarsie.
Do you have any suggestions for oval diamonds in my price range? I can provide more detail if required.
What do you think of these?

I think these are great diamonds and pretty good value. What do you think?
went to the district at lunch and saw this ring with the fiance: http://seawavediamonds.com/Diamond-Item.aspx?itemid=1328232
do you think you can find me an oval within a similar length to width ratio? Fiance definitely likes that slightly elongated look more than the “chubbier” ovals….and I am locked into that 1.5 carat range….I searched JA but couldnt find a similar one. Also do you recommend that jeweler? Thanks for any input/feedback.
The link doesn’t work. Can you send me the GIA report number so I can look it up?
Please see the attached GIA report. It is the exact diamond my fiance and I looked at in Sea Wave Diamonds (5 West 47th Street). I am guessing that the people behind James Allen are probably a collection of some of the district’s merchants/families. I liked this diamond and again its proportions (l/w ratio, eye clean, etc) are more in line with what my fiance likes. Can you suggest similar stones to this maybe within the 1.4 -1.5 range with a similar l/w ratio?
The specs look good to me. How much was that diamond?
Hi Michael can you please tell me if this would be an eye-clean diamond? It’s been some time but I finally see another oval with the approximate 1.55 ratio my fiance loves. would this be eye clean? It is H/SI 1….on an oval is that color suffient/comment on the specs if you could. I want to wrap up this purchase as getting the right oval has been more challenging than I thought.
GIA report is also attached.
I am not sure. I suggest giving it a shot and ordering it. JA offers free returns, so there is no risk in that. You can purchase it, and if you like it, send it back to be mounted.
Can you comment on this diamond’s bow tie?

The fiance isn’t against them. .just don’t know if this is excessive.
I don’t think it will be that noticeable in person, but it will be there.
