I am planning on buying an engagement ring from James Allen. I am going to get a white gold setting with diamonds down the side. I have around an 8k budget for the center stone and want a princess cut.
I was hoping that you could look at the diamond below and let me know if it is a good deal? Is it eye clean?
It is a decent bit cheaper than the others its size and color (about $1500) I noticed that it is IGI certified. Is this a problem?
Any info that you can give me is greatly appreciated!
I would not recommend that diamond.
1) IGI is not as strong as GIA so its probably a J color diamond.
2) It’s not well cut.
You are better off with a well cut GIA diamond even if its J color.
What do you think?
Is a “J” color too low of a color to get? Or should I get a smaller stone and move up in color. I want the biggest stone that has an acceptable quality. I do not want the stone to look bad but I do not want to pay for something that you cannot tell the difference. What should I do?
The color may be pushing it, but it makes no sense to get a diamond with an inferior certificate that will say its an “I” just because you don’t want to get a J color. The improved cut is far more important.
