Q&A: Looking for 1 Ct. Princess Cut for $6K

By Mike Fried,

Good afternoon. I would like to start off by saying thank you for offering such a great service. I happened to stumble upon your site out of pure luck.

I have been looking for a diamond /engagement ring for a couple months now, but seems that I have gotten no where with my search. I was given the site http://www.usacerteddiamonds.com/introindex.html to search for a loose diamond, but this didn’t make my search any easier with all the choices. I even went to a couple jewelers just to compare the different colors and clarity. While I was there, they tried selling me a Hearts on Fire ring for $13000 (1ct center diamond). The ring was nice but I’d like to make sure I’m getting the best ring at the best price.

Can you offer any options on any diamonds? I’m looking for a princess cut, at least 1ct to go into either a white gold or platinum setting. I haven’t looked at settings because I want to see what I can get for a diamond. My budget for the diamond is $6000. I would like to spend no more than 10k total (diamond and setting). Ideally, I’d like to propose June 29th so that gives me a couple months extra.

Again, thank you for everything you do.

As we explain in our HOF article, BGD Signature diamonds equal them in brilliance and are far better value. I love this diamond for you:

Can you send me a link to the setting you like? 4k is a lot of money to be budgeting for a setting.

Thank you Michael for getting back to me.

I have been doing some searching on the site http://www.usacerteddiamonds.com/introindex.html. I have actually contacted a seller to get a list of diamonds which met my criteria (one note, I had the seller bump my budget up to $7000). The list I have attached is the list I was sent by the seller. There are about 5 diamonds highlighted, to include one that the seller selected (stock number GE707). I have also included a GIA report for the one the seller selected.

Do you think any of these are worth taking a look at? The ones highlighted are ones I selected to get a GIA report from the seller. The seller is willing to send them to an appraiser in my area, I just have to choose the ones I want to look at.

As far as the setting goes, I like these 2 or something similar from James Allen:

To be honest, I don’t know much about that company. If the prices were particularly good, I’d say consider it. But they aren’t. Here is something I like for you:

What do you think?

Good morning Mike,

I really like that diamond. Plus it makes it easier that James Allen sells the setting I want. I will be contacting them on Monday, can’t do it over the weekend with the girlfriend around.

Thanks again for your help.

Great. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
