Q&A: Looking for a 2 Ct. Round Diamond for a Pave Setting Platinum Ring within $20K Total Budget

By Mike Fried,

I just came across your website today. I’m looking for an engagement ring and am curious how your service works? I’m mostly looking at James Allen per your reviews. My guess would be that you get paid a commission from the seller that you recommend? If this is the case I’d like to work with you as I’m finding your site very helpful and will most likely utilize James Allen because of it. I’m looking to purchase in the next 2-3 months. Please let me know how we can proceed.

Some more supporting data that may help us get started. Budget: $20k Cut: Round Band: Platinum

We explain how we operate here:

We do feel that James Allen is the best site for the majority of our readers, but we recommend other sites as well (depending on the niche). Also, if you happen to find a good deal on your own I am happy to comment on it.

What are you looking for?

 Budget: $20K – Ring & Diamond

Diamond: Round Brilliant
Clarity, Color, etc: Hoping you can help with.

Attached are a couple of pictures that I took from her Pinterest page for the type of style she likes.

Thanks for the list, I’m still probably a month or two from purchasing but this gives me a great idea of what to look for. I’ll probably e-mail you some possibilities as the time draws closer for your feedback if thats ok?

Sounds good. Email me a couple weeks before you are ready.

I really like the 2.28 and the 2.27. I don’t think the others are eye-clean.

Thanks for the feedback! Do you think J color is a good buy to get the extra size or am i better off trying to find an eye clean H or I that is closer to 2 carats? Finally ready to pull the trigger and I’m looking at the attached setting. I apologize I sent this over through the website form as well but wanted to consolidate messages.

I haven’t decided on white gold or platinum yet the price difference is not significant.

If you are getting pave in the setting you should stick with I+

The 2.17 then the 2.05. I don’t like the VS2 (goes to show you how important the photos are).

Really appreciate your help through all of this! So both the 2.17 & 2.05 are eyeclean?

I think so. If you are going to stare at the 2.17 up super close, you may see the inclusion. But when she is showing the ring off, no one will see that. The VS2 would be readily visible though.

Raised the budget a bit and I found another that might be a better option. What do you think?
