What shape diamond are you looking for?
I’m looking for an emerald cut or an elongated radiant. Preference is probably the emerald cut.

I chose an H color in purpose since a G and H look virtually identical and you can save a bit by getting an H.

Color conscious really. The reason I said G is that I’m told some GIA color G’s are virtually colorless as well. The safe bet is to stay D-F with an exceptional G but going to an H gives me concern.
As I said, there is no visible difference between a G and H. However, if you feel like you’d be happier with something higher, it’s OK. The only thing is a 5ct emerald in D-F color would cost much more than your budget is.
One more thought I had is that I could introduce you to our contact, a wholesaler in NY that might be able to find higher colors for you and keep the cost lower than in stores. Let me know what you feel about this option and I could put you two in touch. He’s a great source of large quality diamonds.
