Hi, I am looking for a good deal on a 2 Carat diamond. I would like to keep the price under $15,000 ($13,000-$14,000 would be ideal if possible) and I have been looking at diamonds that are H and I in color, SI1-SI2 in clarity and Very Good – Excellent/Ideal in cut. The setting will be a half pave in either white gold or platinum like this one from Tacori:

I found this diamond on Blue Nile using the guidelines on your site and at 2.21 Carats it seems like a great deal, would you recommend it? If I decide to purchase it I would gladly do so through your affiliate link.
I look forward to seeing additional diamonds you would recommend based on my budget.
Thank you!
I would not recommend that diamond for you. This is precisely the problem with BN that we explain in our review:

Take a look at this search:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/p2/?CaratFrom=2.00&CaratTo=10.00&Color=I,H&Clarity=SI1,VS2,VS1,SI2&Cut=Ideal,Excellent&PriceFrom=400&PriceTo=999000&Sort=Price%20asc%20,DefaultOrder?a_aid=dmnd1357
The first 10-15 diamonds are terrible as you can see plainly from the photos. These are the first ones I’d recommend:
You are not getting a better deal through BN, just an inferior diamond. The wholesalers know this and use BN to move their undesirable diamonds. FYI, BN has an affiliate program and we refused to work with them because we feel they offer poor value.
Thank for the recommendations.
I noticed on your profile page that you recommend H+ for pave settings which is the type of setting I am purchasing.
With that in mind would you be kind enough to recommend a couple of H colored diamonds that have similar characteristics to the diamonds you recommended below?
Thanks again for your help!
…
Sorry to trouble you again. I forgot to mention that I would go down to 1.90 Carats to keep the price in my budget.
Thanks again!
What type of setting? Will it be halo or a simpler pave? Your budget does not fit a decent H color in it. Going down to 1.90ct is not going to matter (the only diamonds that are in that weight range are mistakes by cutters). You would need a 1.80ct.
It is a simple pave like this one:
The setting is going to be custom made if that helps with matching color and staying in the I range. Could you provide some recommendations on James Allen of the least expensive 2 Carat H colored diamonds that are still good quality? I may consider increasing my budget if an H diamond would look better with this setting.
Thank you.
This would be my recommendation.
Thanks again for your help, all the diamonds you have recommended look great! I have one last question before I make decision. Do you believe the average untrained person would notice a difference between an H color and an I color diamond in the simple pave setting I am considering?
I appreciate your time and patience!
I think you are better off with an H color given the size and setting type. I think most people will not see the difference, but a significant minority will. Its a borderline case and, for piece of mind, I would go with the H.
Thanks!
Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
