My significant other and I are currently looking for engagement rings. We are looking for about 1.5 carats solitaire with a budget of about 10 – 12K. We would like to choose the setting that would make the stone look the largest. We have narrowed it down to: six-prong round brilliant solitary tiffany setting versus the split-shank micropave with either cushion or round brilliant center stone. Will either of these look larger than the other? Also, we have noticed that split-shank settings do not seem to come in 6 prongs… is this true?
Thanks,
Neither will make it look bigger; go with the style you like the most. As for the diamond, I like this one for you:
Its bright, eye-clean and a great value. What do you think?
Thanks for your note.
I think we are starting to settle on the 6-prong round-brilliant solitaire setting. I do like the diamond you suggested. My boyfriend is wondering if there is any benefit to try to get a slightly larger size (say 1.6 ct) if we are willing to drop to SI2 on the clarity. What are your thoughts on this?
I looked for eye-clean SI2s and didn’t find any in your range. In that size, its incredibly rare. I think it may be a wild goose chase to look for that.
