Hey I need to know whether or not a diamond is good or not I found on James Allen. With depth and everything like that could you help me?
Can you please send me the link? I’ll gladly comment on the stone you found.
The setting will be fancy halo with gold metal and diamonds around the ring with twist. I’m trying to figure out what’s the best deal I know that she wants good size but I don’t want to compromise to much I still want a great diamond you know?
There are two main rules when choosing a pear diamond:
1) The depth shouldn’t exceed 74%.
2) The bowtie should be as minimal as possible.
In case of pears, we usually recommend sticking with H+ color with none, faint or medium fluorescence (medium and strong fluorescence on D-G colored diamonds can cause a hazy/milky look in daylight – https://www.diamonds.pro/education/fluorescence/). Check out our article about pear-shaped diamonds: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/pear-shaped/.
Here are my comments about the diamonds you found:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-shaped/1.53-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-6398726?a_aid=dmnd1357 – I wouldn’t recommend that diamond because of the IGI cert. They are looser in grading than GIA or AGS (https://www.diamonds.pro/education/igi/). GIA and AGS are the most consistent and reliable labs.
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-shaped/1.53-carat-e-color-vs2-clarity-sku-6374255?a_aid=dmnd1357 – The strong fluorescence is usually an issue. The strong fluorescence (on D-I diamonds) / medium fluorescence (on D-G color) may cause a hazy/milky look in daylight (https://www.diamonds.pro/education/fluorescence/).
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-shaped/1.50-carat-j-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-5804116?a_aid=dmnd1357 – Those stones have a low color grade. They might look a bit yellowish in a halo setting.
Have a look at these alternatives:

They’re well-cut, eye-clean and brilliant. Always check the actual measurements when comparing two (or more) diamonds.
I like the first one you suggested but I’m worried about the SI clarity.
Bear in mind that these videos are extremely magnified, I don’t think you’ll see any imperfections in person. We always recommend zooming out to 10x and checking the diamond. 95% of all twinning wisps are not visible to the naked eye, so those are alright.
Worst case scenario, if you end up not liking it, you can easily return it. James Allen has a great return policy.
Okay I think i might go with it then so out of all the ones chosen which would you say is the best?
Well, both the stones are nice and they have similar measurements. If you want to get a bigger stone (that was your initial request), then I’d go with the 1.52ct H SI1 stone. On the other hand, the 1.29ct G VS diamond isn’t much smaller and it has better specs. Both are reasonably priced. It’s up to you which one you like more.
I ended up going with the 1st one super excited to see it and see if we are a go!
That’s wonderful news! I hope that ring will meet (if not exceed) your expectations!
