Hello, I am looking at this ring from James Allen. I found your Ringo tool helpful.
14K WHITE GOLD THREE STONE ROUND AND PAVE SET DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING

It’s $7935 total. Total carat says 1.68 with the sides which sounds decent to me.
Anything I have missed? Would you be able to find something similar on Blue Nile? £6k would be my upper price range all in. 3 stone (shoulder diamond) style is her favourite.

This diamond is beautiful, but the color grade I might be an issue. The diamonds in the three-stone setting are directly next to the center stone and are of much higher colors and might make a color difference.
I’d go one grade up to ensure the colorless impression:

These two are equally well cut as your options and would be very bright and brilliant in the three-stone setting. [/answer]
That is helpful, I had not considered the colour of the 3 diamonds side by side.
I feel that the BN 0.8 carat is a better diamond, as I don’t sense the 0.2 carat or additional 0.5mm dimension can be appreciated by the eye as easily.
I have read all of the guides on your website. My final question I suppose is an honest opinion – given it already has the 2 side stones, is the pave’ diamond edge further down around the sides too much?
There is, of course, some size difference, but you’d only see it if you put the diamonds (0.8 vs.1ct) side by side. And in reality, nobody usually knows what a full 1ct is supposed to look like.
Your last question isn’t easy to answer, the actual style is a matter of personal preferences. I, personally, love the look of a three-stone setting without the pave band (I like the contrast of brilliance – diamonds, and smooth white gold band), but that’s just me. What would your girlfriend like more?
Thanks for your help and guidance. I made a purchase today through Blue Nile.
I went with your BN suggestion, as well as the classic 3 stone (no pave).
I suppose once it arrives all that is left is for me to ask the question.
That’s great news! I’m glad you liked my suggestion so much.
