Hello,
Thank you for writing such a great guide on how to pick out a diamond. Despite reading through it and the specifics on how to pick pear shaped diamonds, I still find myself struggling to differentiate diamonds by their fire and brilliance (the sparkle) when looking at James Allen. I’m also not sure I know exactly how to tell if a diamond has the correct pear shape. Would it be possible to have someone send 1-2 examples of high quality pear shaped diamonds?
I have been targeting diamonds with at least G-H coloring and VS1 or VS2 clarity. My budget is $8,000 for the entire ring, but there is a little wiggle room should I find something perfect.
Thank you!
Here are two pear shapes:

Despite the second one being “only” 1.10ct, the measurements are larger than on the 1.20ct one. That’s because the 1.10ct is shallower (but with no negative effect on the brilliance).
The 1.10 ct looks great.
Are there any issues ordering a diamond from one company and the setting from another? I ask because I found a setting at Blue Nile (Twisted Band Halo Diamond Engagement Ring in 14k White Gold) that I think my girlfriend would love. If your recommendation is to order the diamond and setting from the same company, would you recommend any of the below options from Blue Nile or are there others in their inventory you think would be better?
If you purchased a diamond from one online company and a setting from another, you will have a rough time finding a trustworthy jeweler who puts them together. It’s better to get the entire ring in one place.
The diamonds you found on Blue Nile are beautiful. I’d recommend the second one:
Blue Nile LD14506481
I also found this H VVS1 diamond that looks absolutely gorgeous and costs slightly less:
Blue Nile LD14961326
There is virtually no difference between a G and H, so you don’t have to worry about that at all. It would look perfect in the setting you chose.
I am going to compare the latest option you provided later today or tomorrow and get everything finalized.
Let me know how you decide.
I wanted to confirm that my order has been submitted with Blue Nile (I went with your initial 1.01 carat recommendation).
You have been a tremendous help throughout this process, so thank you again. I will absolutely recommend you and your company to friends and family members in the future.
Thank you very much for the message and for any future recommendations. I’m happy I could help you.
