I plan on going through your website very thoroughly for help with picking out a diamond. I am messaging because that’s what it says to do on your home page 🙂
Basically I would like a diamond to go with this setting:
Blue Nile Trio Princess Cut Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
I would prefer to keep the entire budget under 5k.
Is there a particular reason you selected something from Blue Nile? Generally speaking, we are not big fans of their site (here is our BN review for a more thorough explanation). We prefer sites with photos. I am happy to make some recommendations for you, but I would only make recommend diamonds I’ve seen.
I would check out Jamesallen.com and zoara.com to see if there is a setting you like. What do you think?
Thanks so much for the reply.
No particular reason for Blue Nile, just that I knew of them :).
I like the following ring: http://www.zoara.ca/engagement/rings/p_classic_diamond_engagement_ring#p=420863
I think it’s very nice, as well the price is in the range that down the road I wouldn’t feel bad about offering to take her setting shopping if she’d like to upgrade/change.
Although I really like: https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/14k-white-gold-scroll-basket-pave-set-diamond-engagement-ring-item-1263?a_aid=dmnd1357 as well, I like the scroll basket that makes it a little bit different and how the band gets thin at the diamond making the diamond take focus/look big.
What are your thoughts about my choices?
I really like that Zoara setting. Check these out:
www.zoara.com/diamonds/p_round_excellent_cut_i_vs2#p=1532075&a_aid=y&chan=x
www.zoara.com/diamonds/p_round_excellent_cut_i_si1#p=1509195&a_aid=y&chan=x
I would recommend the first one for you. With a channel setting, you want an I+ center diamond, so I think a nice 0.90ct is the way to go. Unless you want to stretch your budget a bit.
Also, where are you located? Are you near the border?
What do you think?
So to throw an entire 180 in our conversation, I was able to take my girlfriend ring shopping this weekend and get some ideas. I even had her look at the Zoara/JamesAllen websites and pick some out. She did like the classic one, but she was very interested in the following 2 settings:
So I’m wondering if I can get a diamond between .7-.8ct with the last setting and keep the price under 5.5k? While still having a nice ring. Is it strange to spend so much on a setting compared to the diamond?
If I was to go with the 1st option then I would likely be able to go with a .8ct diamond in my budget.
Do you think you could suggest a couple of diamonds from JamesAllen? Do you have any other suggestions?
I am located in TO, I have no issues commuting to Buffalo though. I actually hope to order the ring tomorrow and beg to have it by May 3rd, so if I must commute to make that happen then I will.
Thanks again for a tremendous amount of help I truly would be lost without your guidance.

Hi Mike, just an update after doing some fine investigation work I am going to go with the vintage setting with the diamonds down the side (option 1, second link).
So I will just need to decide in a diamond for that. Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Unfortunately JA is located in NY state, so it will be subject to sales tax (I believe 9%). You’ll still save some, but it may not be worth it.
I would go with this diamond. Along with that setting, it’s a great combo and excellent value. What do you think?
The diamond looks great, I asked the rep who helped me also what they thought about the choice and their response was very positive and that it was a great choice. They had no other recommendations for me.
I really appreciate the help and the experience was great, I will keep you updated with the rest of the process and how the ring looks when I receive it.
Please let me know how how it looks when it arrives.
