Q&A: Looking for Cushion Cut for $3200 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi,im looking to find a princess cut diamond in the 0.90–1.00 size range. My budget for the diamond is around $3000,but wouldnt mind if you can get me closer to $2500 if possible.Im pretty flexible on the 4 c”s,as long as it looks sparkley and clean to the naked eye. Also if you can point me to the proper setings to go along with diamond that would be great. My budget on the setting is Around $1000.Thank you.

I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What shape and what type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.

I am actually open to either a cushion or princess cut diamond.I noticed my girlfriend gravitated toward those two styles when we went window shopping at the mall.As far as the setting,I really like the pave style rings.I would prefer white gold unless there is a really good deal on platinum.once again I really appreciate your help and prompt response.

It’s a beautiful diamond and a great value. You aren’t going to get a decent cushion or princess cut in the 1ct range for that price.

Thank you for your help.I wasn’t familiar with Blue Nile diamonds until you send me their link.i really like the choice you made for me,and was wondering if you can also give me a little feedback on a couple of other diamonds that caught my eye on their site ..*cushion cut 1.01 color I vs2 $2909.00 and also cushion cut 1.03 color I,si 1 $2940.00 …thanks again

I would not recommend dropping below H color on a cushion cut. Here is our post on color.

Thank you very much Michael on all the help. I’ve come to the realization that I should bring my budget up to about $3200 for a diamond closer to a carat. I’ve seen about 6-7 diamonds on the James Allen site with about 1 carat cushion in the f-h color range. The reason I choose this site is because of your rave reviews and also I really like the halo white gold settings. Please if you can give me this last feedback on a choice,I think I will close the deal by weeks end.
