Good afternoon.
I’m looking into buying diamond studs with a classic 4 prong platinum setting. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the thousands of diamonds available on Blue Nile and the decisions I obviously need to take…
This is as far as I am currently:
TCW 2-2.2ct
no fluorescence
cut: excellent
On the color, I’m still hesitant to go to a G – but I have read on your site that this is absolutely fine and it will appear white and sparkly anyway. Not sure about the clarity – probably not daring to go below a VS1.
Would love to hear back from you on options. Budget-wise, I’m comfortable anywhere between $12k-$18k but would like the idea to not stretch too close to the 18k.
I’m buying “for life”, so not planning on trading up in a couple of years. So I’m really looking for the best possible stones that sparkle like crazy and make me happy 😉
Oh, shipment would be to Europe – so no James Allen unfortunately as they still do not ship here.
G color is more than enough to have beautiful earrings. You could even go down to an H or I and it would look identical. Keep in mind that the brilliance (“sparkle”) has nothing to do with the color grade, it’s caused by the cut. But if you want to stick with a G, I’m of course more than happy to find some beautiful G stones for you.
Regarding the clarity grade, even a VS2 would work perfectly fine as long as the diamond is eye-clean. I’ll make sure I recommend the best diamonds I’ll find within your budget.
I found the following pairs:
Blue Nile LD14762577
Blue Nile LD14518652
Blue Nile LD14809458
Blue Nile LD14362770
The diamonds are gorgeously cut and would be incredibly brilliant as earrings.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
Is there a reason you have chosen individual diamonds and have not worked with the pair option for earrings? Is this a better deal or easier to navigate?
We like to choose the diamonds individually, especially at larger carat weight. This way you can make sure that they match perfectly and would look great when set as earrings.
Sorry, it took me a couple of days to make up my mind. Unfortunately, one of the below diamond is no longer available.
I quite like the idea of going with stones as per your second proposal. Meaning in the VVS2 direction and with each around 1.1 ct.
Would you mind checking again for me and finding THE pair that gives me the best value? I also have read of a unique code that can be requested from you guys.
…
In addition to the below, if you find a superb VS1 pair which has a real benefit in cost with an outstanding quality, I’d be happy to look into it. But I just browsed through some VS1 stones on Blue Nile that were actually more expensive than the VVS2 ones which is rather confusing…

The pricing depends on a particular supplier so that’s why some diamonds with lower grades can be cheaper than the ones with higher grades.
Here’s what I found this time:
Blue Nile LD14703809
Blue Nile LD14775381
Blue Nile LD14809458
Blue Nile LD14843409
All of the stones are superb and would be incredibly brilliant. The larger pair is still perfectly within your budget so if you’d like the extra size, go for it. It’s going to look amazing in person.
I’d like to go with the bigger pair. However, it slightly bothers me that one is VVS2 and one is VS1 – it’s in my head, but wouldn’t it be nicer to have a match in clarity as well?
The actual clarity grade is not so important. Once a diamond is eye-clean, it’s simply eye-clean and it doesn’t matter if one has a higher clarity grade than the other one, it doesn’t mean that it would look “cleaner” to the naked eye.
My order just has been placed. I had to ask for some help via chat as they needed to group my diamonds in order to let me buying them in their setting.
All good now! Once again, many many thanks for your superb help!
Thank you for letting me know!
It was my pleasure helping you.
