Q&A: Looking for One Carat Princess Cut

By Mike Fried,

I’m looking for a Princess Cut Diamond that is at least 1CT or larger that will be mounted on a solitaire Platinum Ring. My budget is between $5-6K. I’m planning on proposing sometime in early summer but wanted to start looking now to see what is out there. Please let me know if you have any questions. Great site by the way! I thought for sure I was going to buy from Blue Nile and selecting the higher quality Clarity diamonds like VVS1/VVS2 and Color E/F in the near Colorless range. Those were more closer to the $10K range. Ouch! Since I’ve come across your website I think I can save close to 40% of what I thought I might have to spend.

Thanks for the links. I looked at both of them. For 184685 I was looking at the GIA report and was wondering: What does it mean that “Additional pinpoints are not shown and Internal graining is not shown.”? Why is this and what are the implications of the quality of the diamond? What are the reasons that they are not shown? Also, why does JamesAllen not give the actual GIA report #?

For 180351 I notice that a GIA report is not available online. Do you typically not need to look at the GIA report when you pick out the diamond?

The reason they don’t ‘show’ them on the plot is that they are insignificant. For example, the pinpoints are so small, the printer can’t make a dot small enough to be accurate.

I don’t understand what you are saying about the report number. They normally give you the actual report (which has the number on it). The second one is probably a new diamond that just hasn’t had it loaded yet. You can contact them to make sure they get it uploaded asap.

For your piece of mind, you might want to see the actual report to make sure the specs match up with what is on their site. I’ve seen thousands of diamonds from them and have only seen two or three instances where the info didn’t match up (they were typos).

Can you send me some more options? I will be looking to buy something soon. Another question, would it make a difference in terms of Color if I was to put the Princess Cut on a Halo ring? I haven’t decided if I will get a Solitaire or Halo. My girlfriend recently mentioned Halo even though previously she said she always wanted a Solitaire. Go Figure…..

If you go with Halo, you should stick with H+. If its a solitaire (with no other diamonds on the setting or wedding band), you can drop to I color.

What is your budget?

Budget is $5-6K. Looking for a princess cut at least 1CT.

I love this diamond and don’t see any reason to spend more.
