I found your site months ago and was glad to find it. I’ve been looking at diamonds on and off for the past several months. However, it seems like the more I look & learn, the worse I feel about making a decision! Trying to be rational/logical about it doesn’t seem to help!
Obviously, I don’t want to spend too much, but more importantly want to find the right diamond/ring. My budget is around $5000 & am looking for something close to 1 CT (0.9+). Taking your advice I’ve located this on Blue Nile:
Stock number: LD02580414
Price: $5,328
Bank wire price: $5,249
Price per carat: $5,328
Carat weight: 1.00
Cut: Signature Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Depth %: 71.8%
Table %: 65%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to Very Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.47 x 5.43 x 3.90 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.01
What are your thoughts/suggestions?
I’m looking to mount it on a platinum solitaire ring. I’d like to find something that really sparkles on her hand. Would I be better served looking for VS2(or better) & a narrower Girdle?
I suggest you read our Blue Nile Review; there is no way to know if that diamond is ok. If you stick with BN, you need to get a VS1+ diamond.
I see your point about BN.
Would you be able to recommend something from an alternate site?
I’d be happy to. Is that diamond a princess cut? If so, I’d recommend this one instead:

Yes, Princess cut.
I looked at your selection, it’s a nice diamond. However, should I be concerned that the center appears duller than the edges? I’m not how sure how to articulate my perception.
When compared to pictures at the same site to those of similar quality, there seems to be a difference. Surely, it’s not just the way the picture was taken?
For example when compared to this one:
https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1502752.asp
Granted it’s $250 more.
So in your opinion it’s the best one under $5000?
What would you recommend under $5,500?
I apologize for the 20 questions!
Thanks again.
Both of those are beautiful diamonds. Honestly, all you are noticing is the focus by the photographers. There is no standard way to take the photos, so they focus them slightly differently and cause different looking faceting in the photos.
Unfortunately, the diamond you suggested was not available once I returned in earnest to the website.
Would you please recommend a princess cut, 1 carat, F/G, VS1+ for under $5,500?
I love these diamonds:

https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1484866.asp
Personally I prefer the G VS2. They are both eye-clean and it’s a slightly better cut (a little better depth).
I see your point regarding the proportions & will put a hold on the G VS2.
