I have been aiming for the sweet spot of around 0.70. She is a H1/2 I think that’s US 4.25. Looking for something in Round Brill. My budget has to include customs duty here in Australia of 10%
So at the current exchange I can afford about 2700US total for ring and stone.
Was on James Allan and went for a simple Comfort Style Yellow Gold ring which is 435, as part of the selection process if offers up some suggestions that were apparently carefully selected at popular sizes. I selected this one https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1516105.asp
It’s a fairly nice stone.. I can see the inclusions with the loupe but they are not front and center or black.. however it comes in way under budget – which is not a bad thing is is 🙂 i can see why it was selected to be put forward.
However, leaves me to wonder if it is worth looking for something a little different either colour wise i.e. I see you mention J colour is ok with yellow gold and perhaps either slightly larger carat or better clarity.
Any thoughts or does this one look like a good enough option.
for instance

Larger size and inclusion not too noticable
Or

Or at the lower weight VS2 end

Essentially can you spot a better stone in about the $2200 bracket around the 0.70 size? to go in that yellow gold setting?
I know white gold is all the rage, and I could still change my mind (as there’s no price difference) but there’s something about 18k yellow that is classic and timeless in my eyes. I know white/yellow will impact stone colour options slightly too.
Hmm what about this one https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1514130.asp
Anyways, it’s getting late where i am…. thanks in advance for your help… if there’s a red hot option please give me a chance to reserve before posting live to your site and allowing the masses to dive in.

JA have come back with the image for an option I picked out https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1529216.asp
It does have strong fluorescence but it looks clear in the pic, plus my partner is not able to go in direct sunlight as she is very sensitive….
What are you thoughts?
…….
I have been chatting to JA all day and they pretty much have me sold on the merits of picking the larger VS1 Round I colour stone.

My budget is around about $3200US in total tops.
I am very close to pulling the trigger on this stone above but am hanging out for your view on whether it will be a good choice. I am looking at the French Pave setting or simple comfort fit. Either 650 or 435 respectively so that leaves options in diamond pricing.
Please please please give me a heads up when you get the chance as to if you see a better option. The stone is on hold till Friday US EST and I’d like to make a decision this week.
That diamond is very nice and a good value. You need to confirm with JA that the fluorescence doesn’t cause any haziness. If not, then its a winner.
WOW – so awesome to get your response. I am sorry for so many emails, just with it on hold I didn’t want to lose it. I am interested you give it the thumbs up based on confirming haziness or not. I have looked around a lot and then this one just fell into my lap.
Thanks for the advice kind sir.
I will let you know how I go and possibly even email a pic so you can see for yourself in daylight how it looks.
…….
Just thought I’d let you know that I did it. Went for that one. They said there’s no haziness and I can of course always return if I’m not happy.
Thanks for your advice. I feel lucky to find that one. Hard to find a .77 Round in that range with a I Vs1.
I was very impressed with clarity seen online – as long as it’s the same one I think this is going to be an awesome little stone.
…….
Looking forward to this setting arriving very much. It’s going to be awesome I think. Great value too.
My pleasure. Please let us know what you think when it arrives.
