Is is realistic to be looking for a 1ct round brilliant SI1 G excellent cut that is eye clean that is GIA or AGS certified in the $6500 range ? If so, would you be able to recommend some please? Also, is it that much cheaper to purchase online compared to a B&M? Thanks!
You’d have to stretch your budget a bit to get a G SI1:

But as we explain in our color article, nobody can tell the difference between an H color and a G once they are mounted. I would recommend this diamond for you:

As we explain in our article on the evolution of diamond buying, there is no way to get better value than a site like James Allen.
Thank you so much for your prompt response. Those are fantastic recommendations. Just a couple questions. First, is there a difference in the GIA Excellent cut and the AGS Ideal cut? I think I have read that the AGS grading for the ideal cut makes for a nicer diamond. Also, we will be mounting the diamond in a Tacori setting with a double halo. From what I understand they use G colour diamonds. Would an H not be noticeably different once set in the halo and alongside the others?
Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated 🙂
The truth is that both have their merits; it’s six one way, half a dozen the other. Either one will be a beautiful diamond.
As for the color, H color is 100% fine with Tacori settings. We’ve recommended them hundreds of times and never gotten a complaint.
Fantastic!! Thanks so much for your help. We will likely be ready to purchase a diamond within a 1-2 weeks. Depending on when the ring is ready. If the store we are dealing with doesn’t come back with comparable prices (which I suspect they won’t), then we will definitely be purchasing online. If these stones are not available at that time, would it be okay if I send you another email asking for recommendations? Thanks again Mike.
Sure. No problem
Do you know why the SI1 H diamond you recommended would have no inclusions plotted? There is a legend but no markings indicated. There was no AGS cert # on the JA site but I requested it so I could look it up on the AGS site. Same thing. No markings. It does however say additional twinning wisps and surface graining not shown. Could this be all there is or do you believe there an error here? I have looked at a ton of reports and never have a seen this for an SI1 stone.
Have the JA gemologist inspect the diamond and ensure that its eye-clean. I’m not sure either.
Okay, will do. Thank you!
Keep me posted.
Can I also have your opinion on this diamond please? Thanks!

It’s very nice, but it’s also more expensive.
This is what I received. I have a sensitive eye so I don’t think this is a good stone for me. What do you think of this stone? Would that cluster of inclusions exclude this from being completely eye clean as well?

Let me know if you have any other suggested stones. Thank you!!
Gemologist Report from James Allen:
Thank you for your patience while waiting for the gemologist inspection results and idealscope image of diamond 1498642 (1.02crt H SI1). You’ll find the requested image attached to this email for your review.
I’m happy to share with you that this diamond is very bright and has nice fire, brilliance, and scintillation. It has a true “H” color and its inclusions blend very well with the diamond’s faceting. The diamond should appear eye clean to most people but if a sensitive eye were inspecting the diamond very closely, there is a slight chance they may be able to pick up on a few of the inclusions. This lively diamond will look great in any setting and provide you with an excellent value. I believe you’ll be quite pleased with it when you see it in person!
Please take a moment to review this information and let me know if you have any additional questions. I have extended your hold on this diamond for an additional 24 hours while you consider your options. I’ve copied my colleague, X, on this email and he will be reaching out to you within 24 hours to see if you need any assistance in finalizing a purchase. After that time we will release it back to our inventory.
I just saw this email. If you are concerned with the comments on the inclusions, I suggest spending the extra money for the VS2.
Okay. Thanks so much for your help! 🙂
Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
I requested the gemologist take a look at it just to be sure and they had asked me to pick another stone. It is the same clarity and colour. They actually reported the second stone to have better light performance and to be brighter and whiter than the other “H”. I think we are going to go with it. This is the link…
