Let me start by saying that your website has been an Eye Opener for me in diamond education; can’t thank you enough for this. I was hoping to get some professional advice in choosing diamond for platinum setting from James Allen (SKU: 11119P). I am interested in Round shape, 1.00+ carat range, Ideal cut, and eye clean diamond. I was hoping to keep my total budget around $7000; so if possible, diamond should be around $5500 but price is a little flexible. I am not sure which color would be the best in this setting.

Your help is greatly appreciated.
Can you stretch your budget a bit? With that type of setting, I’d recommend an H+ center diamond.
Regarding the diamond: I would like to keep price no more then $7000 for center stone, probably I would be more comfortable in $6000$ to $6500 range, but it will depend on quality of stone. If you find excellent diamond for more then $7000 around 1 carat range, I would still like to see it.
How much do you want to spend? It’s easier to tailor my recommendation around that.
Ideally, I would like to spend no more than 6000 on a 1 carat diamond, but I am a little flexible on a price. Also, just out of curiosity I wonder how much equivalent 0.8 carat diamond would cost?
Here are the ones I’d recommend:

What do you think?
Thank you, the diamonds look great and we will consider both diamonds. As an expert, would you suggest to pay almost twice the price for 0.2 carat difference? Is the size difference very noticeable?
Thank you again; we really appreciate your help.
The size difference is noticeable, but I wouldn’t pay the extra money if it was me 🙂
Thank you for quick reply. Is 0.8 carat diamond you suggested considered eye clean? Also, should I request JA’s gemologist to take a look at the diamond? And the last question may be a little unusual: Which size of the diamond would you suggest for best value, around 0.8 carat? Would you size up/down or stay with this diamond?
As always, Thank you.
The diamond is eye-clean. You can ask for the gemologist’s opinion, but I think it’s a beautiful diamond.
I wanted to call JA about .8 carat diamond tonight after work, but when i got home it was not longer available. I’m a little disappointed and sad :(. I was wandering if you could help me to choose another diamond in 4000 dollars range.
Thank you for your help.
Here is what I would recommend for you:
These are both fantastic diamonds. What do you think?
Thank you for your suggestions, diamonds look very good. I send email today to JA asking for inspection, just to be sure, because i never bought such expensive item online before.
If you had to choose between 2 diamonds, which one would you pick?
Thank you for all your help.
I would go with the second one.
Thank you, I will let you know when I hear back from JAs gemologist.
Here is what JA’s gemologist had to say about diamonds:
“You will be happy to hear that the gemologist found diamond 210199 (0.80 carat-H-SI1; $3,360) to have a very good amount of brilliance (white light return). It also has a great amount of fire and sparkle that is well balanced throughout the diamond. It is a true “H” in color and faces up a nice color. Diamond 198630 (0.80 carat-H-SI1; $3,420) also has good light performance, however, it is the weaker of the two. It has a fair amount of fire and sparkle that is also well balanced. It too faces up a nice white color and both diamonds are completely eye clean.
After reviewing this information, it is not hard for me to recommend that you move forward with diamond 210199. It is truly a beautiful diamond that we know you will love when you see it for yourself.”
I think I will go with first diamond (210199), or you still think second one is better? What do you think?
I would go with the Gemologist’s opinion. They have seen it in person.
Diamond looks very good, Thank you for all your help.
Sounds great. Best of luck
