I had emailed you yesterday but realized I provided the wrong email address. Above is my correct email address. I plan to propose to my girl friend towards the end of August and am looking for a round diamond in the 10K range. The setting will be Pave to go with this diamond. In my conversations with my girlfriend, I’ve understood that she doesn’t want anything less than H color and VS clarity. From reading your website I understand that it isn’t the best strategy when buying a diamond but, she is pretty keen on not going below the above mentioned clarity and color.
Can you please help me find the right diamond? Thank you.
I’m glad you emailed again. Here was my response:

I really like the first diamond. It’s bright, eye-clean and a great value. What do you think?
Yes, first one looks beautiful!
It looks like my GF accidentally came across this email of ours and told me that she’s been working with you. I understand she wanted a cushion but, I want to get her a round diamond. The first diamond is indeed very nice and it’s on the top of my list. Just one question, what would it take to get to 1.5 carat?
$3,000 – $4,000. Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it. Check out our post on diamond size; the noticeable size difference is diameter. Here is a 1.51 I would recommend:

The difference in weight is 16%, the diameter is only 7% difference, and the price 44%. That’s up to you if you want to reach that marker.
Either way, the diamond will be much bigger than the cushion cut she was looking at. The L and W of the diamond she was looking at was around 6.15 (the 1.30ct I just showed you was 6.96mm). Round diamonds look much larger per carat weight than any other diamond shape.
Thank you Mike, I will purchase the first diamond(1.3 H VS2) that you had pointed me to.
Sounds great. Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
While waiting for the gemologist report on the other stones I was browsing JA’s site and came across this. I went down in color to I as I was thinking of a solitaire setting. Can you please be kind enough to provide your input on this stone?

Please let me know your thoughts on if
1) We need a gemologist inspection for round diamonds?
2) Will there be a difference in brilliance between 2 round diamonds
if they are the same cut/clarity/color?
It’s useful to let you chose between two identical diamonds. There are very slight differences in cut within an excellent grade. I wouldn’t harp on it, but if you are choosing between the two, may as well get the gemologist’s opinion.
Thank you Mike, in the gemologist inspection the 1.51(H VS2) came out as a top performer. Followed by the 1.3(H VS2) which you really liked and suggested in your first email. I stuck with your suggestion and got the 1.3(H VS2). The comments from gemologist was that 1.3 wasn’t as consistently bright as 1.51. It was still bright and eye clean.
Eagerly waiting for its arrival now.
Sounds good. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
