I’m looking for the best emerald or asher cut diamond within the 5-6k range. I’ve been following your weekly post but I don’t see many emerald cut diamonds featured. Can you assist me in my search?
Thanks,
I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.
Thanks for getting back to me. I’m looking at a platinum solitaire setting for the diamond.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I would go with one of these:

Personally, I like the first one. I don’t think its worth the money spending more for the 1.20ct.
Thanks for the suggestions Mike. Based on what I’ve been reading on your blog and elsewhere, I agree. The first one is the better value. I have to ask though, what’s your opinion on radiant vs emerald cuts? Which one has more of that “wow” factor that seem to drive whether or not someone would “love” their diamond? Also, which of these stones would be better suited for a solitaire setting and how do they compare when it comes to price?
Thanks.
…
Also,
What are your thoughts on these stone compared to your second recommendation?
For what it’s worth. I think she would want a ring that’s eye catching (in size) and from my research I think that the “table %” determines how the rock looks. Let me know your thoughts.
P.S – I’m a wedding photographer and I’ve seen tons of engagement rings, but picking my own is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in live 🙁
Emeralds have that traditional ‘classy’ look. Radiants are more modern. I don’t have a preference between the two.
I would stick with the 1.20 I recommended. The table is too big on the 1.22 you selected. The 1.13 is ok, but the 1.20 is nicer.
Thanks.I’ll keep you posted on things.

Hi!
Sorry for not getting in touch with you sooner, but I ended up not getting the stone you recommended. My girlfriend had a change of heart and is now in love with the radiant cut so I’ve been looking around on JA and I think I’ve found what I believe to be a great stone: that’s within my new budget 7K. The ring is probably going to be white gold or platinum in a solitaire setting maybe with pave stones.
That diamond looks fantastic.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to pull the trigger on Thursday (nervous!) but I’ve followed your website for long enough to know that you guys give the best advice possible. I’m almost second guessing myself because I picked this one out on my own so let me know if you think I could do better. (Please)

to me
Also… is there a code I can use where you would be able to get credit of some sort for leading me to JA in the fist place?
…
I pulled the trigger 🙂 Will keep you posted on how it looks.
Thanks for thinking of us. There is no code. If you can just let me know what the order number is afterwards, we can double check.
Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
Hi,
I ended up going with this stone:
I liked it alot, but she loved it so I guess I did alright. I’ll send you pics of the ring once it gets back from resizing.
Thanks again!
Sounds great. Can’t wait to see the photos.
