Q&A: Looking for Half Ct. Round Cut for Bezel Setting

After much searching and bouncing back and forth, I have decided to go with a simple, but elegant white gold ring with a bezel-set diamond, not unlike this ring from etsy.com: http://www.etsy.com/listing/125790827/rose-gold-solitaire-diamond-engagement?ref=correlated_featured

I have decided after reading your website that it is probably in my best interest to purchase a loose stone online and have a local jeweler put together my humble little ring . My question is this: How can I maximize my value by taking advantage of this style of setting. I am looking for a diamond under .50kt because I understand that the prices skyrocket after this point, and I am not willing to justify the price incread for nothing more than bragging rights.

I met with a jeweler today who quoted me ~$350 for the setting I an looking at, and I’d like to keep the entire thing under $1000.
