I’m looking for a .75 – 1.0 princess cut diamond in the $2500.00 – $2800.00 range.
Any suggestions would be great.
I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Thank you for your response. The settings I have been looking at are solitaire white gold similar to the picture attached. I really like the square look and recently came across the attached setting that had a round diamond in it and it looked just as nice. I just want to get the best value for my money, within the budget. I have found the setting locally which retails for $699.00 CAD in 14k white gold, which seems high to me but would like some advice on a diamond for the centre.
If you can stretch your budget a bit, this diamond is a screaming deal:

It’s bright, eye-clean, well cut and a great price for what you are getting. It will look great in that setting.
What do you think?
It is very nice but unfortunately it is no longer available. Would the selection be greater after Christmas and does the prices go down, or is this the best time to buy?
Actually, post holiday is a terrible time to buy unless its a seriously under-performing season (which it does not seem like it will be). The suppliers go through cycles of inventory. Its not like a ‘Tickle me Elmo’ doll that they sell the first 90% of the inventory and then clear out the last 10% at a discount post holiday. Each diamond is unique, so people will keep picking through getting the best there are there. You won’t have fresh goods until later on.
I would go with this diamond:

I checked into taxes and duties and I have to move the budget to $2500 for a loose diamond. Do you know if the settings from James Allen sit high and if its worth getting it set with them or locally. The jeweller I spoke with would charge $200.00 just to set the diamond and said that I would have to sign a waiver in case the diamond is chipped etc… during the setting process. They also said that they would not provide any warranty. So this makes me think that it may be better to pick a setting from James Allen.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
To the best of my knowledge, JA will set it any way you want. I don’t think it makes sense to pay someone to set it there.
