Q&A: Looking for Round Cut 1 Ct. for Solitaire Setting

By Mike Fried,

Great site! It has been very helpful on my search for a diamond.

I have run into an issue though. I had planned on spending about $7,000 on a ring and diamond with a budget of about $6,000-$6,500 for the diamond. I had a Diamond picked out and was almost ready to go.

However, due to very recent car troubles I have to lower my budget, this has kind of shaken my confidence a bit in regards to searching for a diamond. So, I’d love to get your assistance and get your opinions on some diamonds.

So far I like these two in my new price range:

So far I am leaning towards the 1.05 carat, as the proportions for the face are almost the same. Would both of these be eye clean? Any other suggestions you can make for diamonds or comments on the ones I have chosen would be great. I will be eternally grateful.

I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.

Thanks very much for your response. I’m looking at getting a six prong 18k white gold solitaire ring.

I really like the 1.12ct. The 1.05’s table is too big.

Thanks for the reply Mike, I understand you’re busy, and thank you for taking the time to reply. Would the 1.12ct diamond be eye clean? I know that question get asked a lot, I just want to be sure.

The 1.12ct is eye-clean.

Thanks so much for your help. I’ve bought the 1.12ct diamond and the ring and am waiting on delivery. Very excited!

Again, thank so much for to you assistance and thank you for creating this great website to share your knowledge with the uneducated(about diamonds anyway) masses like myself.

How does it look? Sorry I didn’t message you sooner (I was away for the holidays).

Hope you enjoyed your holidays! As for how the ring looks, I couldn’t tell you just yet as I’m having issues with FedEx. They are trying to charge me extra duties on the import, but, James Allan is meant to have a blanket Australian Free Trade Agreement declaration that is meant to nullify the extra duty, however, FedEx cannot find this declaration.

I’ll be in touch as soon as I receive the ring, thanks so much for your help in selecting the diamond.

Sounds great. Keep me posted.
