Q&A: Looking for Round Cut for Blue Sapphire Side Stone Setting

By Mike Fried,

I stumbled upon your website after googling bluenile reviews and I am glad I found it, else I may have not been made aware of blue niles lower rating compared to other online jewelry stores. Your website has also pointed me to james allen and I have been looking through their inventory since then. I am in the market for an engagement ring. I am looking for a gemstone setting with 2 or more sapphires on the side, and a main diamond in the middle. Possibly just 1 diamond in the middle, followed by 2 equal size sapphires on the size and smaller diamonds around the band (or none at all). She wants the band to be white gold as well. Something similar to this: https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-colored-sidestones/Blue-Sapphire-Ring-11150w.html

My price range is around 4600$ for the entire ring.

While with my soon to be fiance, we tried on a variety of rings and she seems to like 3/4 – 1 carat in size for the diamond. Leaning more towards the 3/4 size, just because she likes the ratio of it to her hand and doesnt want something overly large. Anything in that range would be perfect, and it always wouldnt hurt to go a little bit larger while staying in the price range.

I also know that she wants a round diamond.

I have been looking through your diamond education guide and I have been searching for a round diamond, H color, VS2-VS1 clarity with .75-1 carats. It seems with those stats I can chose a diamond with a Very Good – Excellent cut and still meet my price range (assuming I chose the setting linked above).

Would you have any suggestions on different diamonds, and how to alter my search to get a better diamond for the price?

Also, what are your thoughts on bluenile.com? It is the only other online retailer besides jamesallen I can find that offers real photos of each diamond.

We are big fans of Blue Nile. Check these out:
