I thought I had everything figured out until I discovered your site.
I had done some basic research and I had decided on a diamond similar to the following:
My thought process was that I’d sacrifice carat size and upgrade the other categories like clarity and color. After reading your site, it sounds like I was wrong!
Important Info:
My budget is +/- $7,500. I’m open to buying from any site(I didn’t even know about James Allen before finding your site!). I prefer Round cut and Princess cut diamonds and I’ll likely go with a Pave setting.
If you need anymore info, just let me know. I truly appreciate the help!
I’d be happy to help you out. Is your budget for the diamond only, or should I factor in setting costs as well?
Thanks for the follow up.
I was pretty rushed when I wrote the original email, so I’ll do my best to provide you with additional info:
1) My budget of $7,500 would be for the ENTIRE ring, not just the diamond. My apologies for omitting that info.
2) My girlfriend works in the medical field and is constantly putting on/taking off gloves. Are there certain ring settings that have a lower profile that might make it easier on her to deal with the gloves?
3) In the past, we’ve tried on some rings and I was able to see how various carat sizes looked on her. She has very skinny fingers, and anything over 1-carat starts to look kind of odd and clunky.
Hopefully that covers it. Let me know if I can help!

What do you think about this:

I was going to recommend that setting for you. 🙂
However, I’m not a fan of the diamond. As much as we love JA, we are not fans of their True Hearts collection. You are best off sticking with a regular excellent cut. As for the color/clarity combo, I suggest checking out Ira’s video on our clarity page; you can put this diamond next to the one you selected and not tell the difference at all.

I would say spend your money on a bigger diamond, but it seems like you guys are happy with something in the 0.80ct range. So consider yourself a lucky man that you can come in well under budget and still make your partner very happy.
Thanks for the feedback! Good to hear that my taste in settings is on par.
After playing around with the “Diamond Search” function, it looks like I can swap out the True Hearts cut in exchange for an Ideal cut AND an extra 0.10 carats.
My current parameters are the following:
Remaining Budget: $6,250(Assuming the $1,250 Pave setting)
Cut: Ideal
Color: F,G,H
Clarity: VS1,VS2,SI1(and SI2 if it looks great under the V-Loupe)
Carat: 0.85 – 1.05
I feel really good about those ranges, and I’m willing to bump up the budget for the right diamond.
I’m able to find PLENTY of diamonds meeting those standards, but I have no idea which one to pick. Is there anyway that you could choose 3-4 based on the above criterion, or am I better off just choosing the cleanest looking one?
Thanks!

I would go with the 0.92 F VS2. I like it the most.
Much appreciated!
I’ll let you know when it arrives.
Sounds great. Keep me posted.
